Emma Thompson Reveals Astonishment at Being Twice Left ‘Seriously Ill’ at the Oscars

Emma Thompson has revealed that the Oscars have made her ill twice in the past. She discussed how the pressure and glare of the event was too much for her to handle, leading her to develop an “allergy” to that part of the job. Despite this, she has won two Oscars over the course of her career and has been nominated a further three times. She discussed her time in Cambridge Footlights with fellow actors Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, saying that they did it “for fun”. She was made a Dame in 2018 for her services to drama.
