Last month, Martin Kemp dropped a jaw-dropping confession on the Loose Women panel that left everyone in shock. The Spandau Ballet legend, who’s been happily married to Shirlie since 1988, expressed his skepticism about scheduling intimacy “If I had to look in my diary and it says 7:30pm on a Thursday night, I’m going to do it… I don’t think it works. I even feel under pressure if it’s a Sunday morning!… ‘Oh it’s Sunday morning, I’m going to have to do it in a minute’.”
At 63, Martin has shown he’s not shy about sharing his candid views. He further explored this topic during a recent appearance on This Morning, where he was promoting his new book. Hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley couldn’t resist grilling him on his previous comments.
Defending himself with a cheeky grin, Martin quipped, “You cut out the bit where I say, ‘Get yourself ready Shirl, I’m coming home!'” He reassured everyone that his remarks were all in good fu”My family have grown up taking the mickey out of each other.”
Martin emphasized that open discussions about sex have always been the norm in his household “We’re really open, sex isn’t taboo, never has been.”
In stark contrast to his upbringing, where kissing on TV would send everyone pretending to be asleep, Martin is relieved that his family can joke about such things. “I’m really happy that we can joke about it,” he stated with a smile.
During his time on This Morning, Martin was there to promote his latest book, The Fall, which is a follow-up to his debut novel, The Game, released in November 2023. In this new crime thriller, which hit the shelves today, readers meet Johnny Klein, a once-popular eighties pop star whose dark past resurfaces, intertwining his personal and professional life in thrilling ways.
