In a heartfelt reveal, Gary Hollywood, the beloved actor from the iconic BBC sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys, shared his joy with fans after welcoming his second son, Carter, in October 2024. The 45-year-old, known for his role as the humorous hairdresser Dino Doyle, described the birth as a dream come true, especially after facing the deep pain of a miscarriage the previous year.
Reflecting on the loss, Gary stated, “You never get over [a miscarriage]. [Our baby] will always be in our memory; you just learn how to deal with it.†To honor their experience, both he and his wife Cherylanne have become ambassadors for the Baby Loss Retreat, a charity dedicated to supporting families dealing with similar grief.
After their devastating loss, it was the connection to the charity that helped them navigate through their grief. Gary recalled meeting the founders, Bryan and Julie Morrison, during a charity event, which sparked his interest in their mission. “I felt very hopeless; then I met Bryan and Julie. I was really interested in what the charity was all about,†he said. “They’ve become a great support to us in helping us to deal with things. It made me interested to get involved.â€Â
Gary and Cherylanne also share a five-year-old son named Ollie, who is embracing his new role as a big brother enthusiastically. Gary mentioned, “Ollie’s been a great help. We’ve made sure to involve him in the chores of getting nappies or at bath time, so he’s had his little role.â€Â
When announcing Carter’s arrival, Gary referred to him as a “rainbow,†highlighting the joy that followed their storm of loss. “When we found out we were pregnant again, it just felt like all our dreams came true,†he said, emotion evident in his words. “I cried at all my children’s births, and because this was a rainbow baby, it made it even more special.â€Â
For Gary Hollywood, love and support from friends, family, and the charity have been vital on their journey forward. “We’ve come through the storm, the cloud has lifted, and through the help of the charity, we have the strength to move forward.â€Â
