Rapper Bru-C Cancels Gigs to Focus on Mental Health

In a heartbreaking turn of events, MOBO Award winner Bru-C has announced he’s pulling out of his much-anticipated Glastonbury performance. The rapper, whose real name is Josh Bruce, made this decision after cancelling all his gigs for the rest of the year to focus on his mental health. He candidly shared that he has been “trying to bury things” rather than addressing his struggles.

The 33-year-old artist from Derbyshire expressed his disappointment, revealing that he had hoped to avoid cancellation. But ultimately, he acknowledged the need to “take a step back” for his well-being. On Instagram, he shared a heartfelt statement saying, “I’m really sorry to announce I’m going to have to cancel all my upcoming show commitments for 2025/the foreseeable future.”

He went on to explain, “Many of you know I’ve been struggling with mental health issues for some time now. I’ve tried my best to bury things and keep my life and career moving forward.” Bru-C, who won the Best Newcomer award at the MOBOs in 2022, admitted that his condition had gradually worsened in recent years, necessitating this step back to regain stability in his life.

The news hit hard, as Bru-C expressed his sorrow about letting fans down, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing his mental and physical health. “I know a lot of people will have spent hard-earned money to come to the shows I’m booked at, and I really am sorry for the impact this decision will have on you all,” he reflected.

Though uncertain about his return to the stage, Bru-C reassured his fans, stating, “I want you to know I’m seeking the right help and support, and I take none of this for granted. I just want to be better, when that will be I don’t know.”

The emotional response from his friends and loyal fanbase was swift. Fellow rapper Gardna praised him, saying, “Brother, the tunes you have are timeless. The main stage will always be ready for you! Go well king!”

DJ and musician Example added, “Take your time, man. Focus on yourself. Mad respect for this post. Hopefully, it helps others. Love ya.” Producer Toddla T echoed these sentiments, reminding Bru-C that “a show is a show; they ain’t going anywhere… heal up and come back match fit.”

Now based in Nottingham, Bru-C released his album Original Sounds through CruCast back in November 2019. His second album followed in December 2020, and a year later he joined the major record label, Def Jam Recordings.
