Charlize Theron Calls Out Bezos Wedding Extravagance

Charlize Theron isn’t holding back when it comes to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez‘s extravagant wedding over the weekend. At the fifth annual Block Party for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project on Saturday, June 28, Theron delivered a jab at the Amazon mogul and his new wife. “I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding,” she quipped, per the Hollywood Reporter. “But that’s OK because they suck and we’re cool.”

What started as a lighthearted comment quickly turned into a powerful speech. Theron, 49, took the opportunity to shift gears and address larger societal issues, thanking attendees for gathering, “especially when the world feels like it’s burning because it is.” She spoke passionately about the struggles of immigration policies, women’s rights, and the increasing violence against marginalized communities. “Here in Los Angeles, in the US, and across the globe, we’re moving backwards fast,” she emphasized. “Immigration policy has destroyed the lives of families, not criminals; women’s rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise.”

Theron’s rousing remarks resonated deeply with the crowd, culminating in thunderous applause. She even concluded with an unfiltered, “Yeah, f–k them,” underscoring her frustrations. While Theron was not invited to the multi-million-dollar wedding held in Venice, Italy, a star-studded roster of guests did attend, including Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Tom Brady, Oprah Winfrey, and Leonardo DiCaprio. The wedding weekend featured electrifying performances by Matteo Bocelli and Ellie Goulding.

Planting Controversy Amid Celebrations

Yet, behind the glitz and glam, the event sparked significant controversy. Environmental activists and local residents expressed their discontent with the billionaire’s wedding, accusing him of exploitation and tax avoidance. The juxtaposition of wealth against a backdrop of social struggle painted a complicated picture.

Despite the backlash, Bezos, 61, and Sánchez, 55, made headlines for their quiet charity work, donating to Venice charities ahead of the lavish celebration, according to Page Six.
