Jurassic World Rebirth has taken the box office by storm, quickly claiming its spot as a significant entry in the storied franchise. As the sixth sequel to Steven Spielberg’s iconic 1993 film Jurassic Park, this standalone story brings together a star-studded cast, including Mahershala Ali, Scarlett Johansson, and Jonathan Bailey. They portray a team on a perilous mission to extract dinosaur DNA from an island teeming with mutant genetic experiments.
Launched on the Wednesday of the Fourth of July weekend, Jurassic World Rebirth stormed to the top of the domestic box office, achieving a remarkable three-day debut of $92 million and a five-day holiday total of $147.8 million.
According to Deadline, as of Saturday morning, the film is projected to earn a three-day domestic total of $38.7 million by the end of its second weekend, bringing its cumulative gross to an impressive $230.8 million.
With this total, Rebirth has joined an elite group of films, becoming only the fifth in 2025 to surpass the $230 million domestic mark. It has notably outperformed 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, which grossed $229 million, positioning Rebirth as the fifth highest-grossing movie in the franchise within just 12 days of its release.
Assessing the Box Office Impact
Climbing Higher May Prove Difficult
Despite its impressive opening, Rebirth faces challenges in surpassing its predecessors on the domestic charts. As the seventh installment of a franchise filled with blockbuster hits, it needs an additional $146 million to outpace Jurassic World Dominion’s gross of $376.8 million.
Here’s a quick look at the domestic performance of all seven Jurassic films:
|
Title |
3-Day Domestic Debut |
Domestic Total |
|---|---|---|
|
Jurassic Park (1993) |
$50.1 million |
$415.4 million |
|
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) |
$72.1 million |
$229 million |
|
Jurassic Park III (2001) |
$50.8 million |
$181.2 million |
|
Jurassic World (2015) |
$208.8 million |
$652.3 million |
|
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) |
$148 million |
$417.7 million |
|
Jurassic World Dominion (2022) |
$145.1 million |
$376.8 million |
|
Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) |
$92 million |
TBD |
Realistically, Rebirth is unlikely to surpass Dominion in domestic earnings. It recorded the lowest domestic debut among the Jurassic World films, lagging behind its predecessor by over $50 million. To outpace Dominion, it would require exceptional audience retention, which has not been evident thus far. Current projections indicate a 58% drop in its second weekend, mirroring the 59.2% decline seen by Dominion. As such, expectations now hover around a maximum gross of $250 million in North America.
Box Office Outlook for Jurassic World Rebirth
Strong Performance Doesn’t Equal Failure
Even if Jurassic World Rebirth remains among the lower-grossing installments in the franchise, it doesn’t necessarily spell commercial failure. The film’s reported budget stands at $180 million, making it one of the more economical entries compared to past installments that averaged between $170 and $215 million.
Given the franchise’s history of billion-dollar successes, there remains ample room for Jurassic World Rebirth to turn a profit, even without exceeding its predecessors at the box office.
