Will Peter Reckell Return to Days of Our Lives Soon?

As Peter Reckell wraps up his current teachings on Days of our Lives, fans are left reflecting on the emotional waves that have reverberated through Salem. Reckell, best known for his portrayal of Bo Brady, recently opened up about his poignant farewell to John Black and hinted at the possibility of returning to the beloved soap in the future.

In terms of chronology, Bo Brady bid farewell to Salem back in November 2012. Although he and Hope remained married until September 2014, when Bo filed for divorce, he made a dramatic return in 2015 to save his “Fancy Face” from her nefarious husband, Aiden Jennings. However, tragedy struck when Bo was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and appeared to meet his demise—until it was revealed that he hadn’t truly died.

Megan Hathaway’s sinister plans took control over Bo’s body, with assistance from Dr. Rolf, allowing him to exist while supposedly cured of his ailments. Fans last saw Bo awakened during Beyond Salem Season 2 in 2021, albeit not quite himself. Manipulated by Megan, he attempted to take Hope’s life but was stopped, leading to his plunge into a coma. Fast forward to the present, Bo is awake but must navigate a drastically altered reality.

Reflections and Farewell

Behind the scenes, Days of our Lives has lost a few legacy actors since Reckell’s last full-time appearance, including powerhouses like John Aniston, Bill Hayes, Drake Hogestyn, and Wayne Northrope. Acknowledging these losses, Reckell expressed to Women’s World, “It’s just these powerhouses of daytime and Days of Our Lives! It’s been difficult for the production—not just the actors, but the whole team. That heartache is just… a lot.” Adding to the intensity of the farewell, Reckell shared that the experience of portraying John Black’s death was particularly personal, intertwined with real emotions between him and Hogestyn.

Reckell is not ruling out the chance of a more permanent return. He noted that during his last stint, several cast members did not reside in Los Angeles, making it feasible for him to make a longer commitment. “After this short reprise of Bo and Hope, I don’t know that this ‘goodbye’ is something that the fans are looking forward to,” he remarked. “The first time we sailed off into the sunset, we came back after a couple of years, so hopefully, the writers and producers will bring us back! It’d be pretty cool.”

Fans Want More

This isn’t the first time Reckell has indicated he’s open to returning to the Peacock streaming soap. Celebrating his debut anniversary back in 2018, he tweeted, “On this day, what seems like a lifetime ago, I realized I was the luckiest man on Earth! What a gift, what a ride, it was amazing!” Fast forward to now, and the actor reiterated his desire to come back, saying, “Several of you responded by asking me to come back to DOOL. I would love to go back; the show just has to find room for me. Thanks so much for your continued support; it means a lot after all these years!!”
