Stricter restrictions on expression

He also spoke of his government’s attempts to “protect the people, in particularly weak groups in society, from lies and misleading information without violating the right of citizens to receive accurate and impartial information, “he said.

These statements came as Erdogan’s government plans to move forward with the passage of a law that criminalizes the dissemination of news. false and disinformation online, but faced several criticisms in the country, as human rights activists believed the proposed changes tightened restrictions on freedom of expression.
