Erdogan Upholds May 14 Election Date

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday that presidential and legislative elections in Turkey will take place on 14 May as planned, despite the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on 6 February. postponement of the elections during which he announced that he would run again, despite the situation in the affected areas.

On Monday, the Turkish president apologized for the delay in organizing relief in the first days after the earthquake, while relief was being lifted from the rubble, and on Wednesday he reviewed in front of the parliamentarians of his Justice and Development Party that the relief operations are been delayed for several days “due to chaos and weather conditions”. He revealed: “But a few hours after the earthquake, our ministries contacted the authorities of the affected cities and began to coordinate the work.”
