Euro-Med: Mines represent a mortal danger for millions of Yemenis

The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights said today, Sunday, that the Houthi militias continue to claim victims among the Yemenis with the mines they plant on a large scale.

The observatory made it clear in tweets on its Twitter page that mines in Yemen continue to claim victims among civilians and represent a deadly danger to the lives of millions of them, given their widespread use in conflict areas.

He called for strengthening local and international efforts to combat mines in Yemen and neutralize the danger.

The observatory referred to the latest victims of mines that fell yesterday, Saturday, in the governorate of Al-Jawf.

Yesterday, Saturday, 10 civilians were killed and injured in two separate incidents, when the anti-personnel mines planted by the coup militia Houthi exploded in thearea of Al-Yatama, governorate of Al-Jawf, in the north of Yemen.

The “Yemeni Landmine Monitor” confirmed that 5 civilians were killed and another 5 injured in the explosion of Houthi mines in Al-Jawf Governorate.

The observatory said three civilians were killed and five others injured when an anti-vehicle mine exploded in a civilian vehicle from the Houthis on the main road connecting thearea of Al-Yatama in Al-Jawf governorate and Ma’rib governorate.

The observatory also indicated that two civilians were killed following the explosion of a Houthi mine in a civilian vehicle on the desert road in thearea of Al-Yatama in Khub Wal Sha`af district, northeast of Al-Jawf governorate.

The Houthi militia, the only one of the parties in conflict in Yemen is using mines in its war against Yemenis and has planted about two million mines since 2015, according to estimates by mining conflict experts in different areas of the country.
