Europe asks to donate to Kiev .. and Zelensky asks for 38 billion dollars

The European Commission on Tuesday urged EU countries and companies to donate more money and equipment to support Ukraine’s energy sector, more than a third of which was destroyed by Russian missiles and drone strikes.

“The crux of the matter is to protect and care for thousands and tens of thousands of families, vulnerable people, children and the elderly before next winter,” said European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simpson.

After a meeting of the energy ministers in Luxembourg, added that Ukrainian transformers, switches and power lines were destroyed, causing outages, adding: “It is urgent”.

He said it was clear that more donations were needed than the € 20.5 million ($ 20.43 million) raised. He also urged private actors, such as companies, to donate more.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine that Russian missiles and Iranian-made drones have destroyed more than a third of his country’s energy sector.

Zelensky called on the international community to make financial efforts to cover his country’s projected budget deficit of $ 38 billion next year due to the war.

“IS in this conference that a decision should be made on assistance to cover Ukraine’s budget deficit next year, “said Zelensky in a video call, adding: “That’s a very large amount, a $ 38 billion deficit.”

For his part, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said rebuilding Ukraine would be a “generational task” that should begin immediately, even if the war continues.

He believed that the question “was nothing more than the elaboration of a new Marshall Plan for the twenty-first century, the task of a generation that must begin now”.
