Expanding the ‘John Wick’ Universe: New Film in the Works

Since the first John Wick movie came out nine years ago, the franchise has stayed the best action IP thanks to jaw-dropping set pieces and the creative ways the main character kills his enemies. Not surprisingly, John Wick gave rise to other excellent action series, like Nobody, which Bob Odenkirk led. With John Wick: Chapter 4 supposedly putting Keanu Reeves’s famous assassin out of action for good, fans want to know what else Lionsgate has planned for the series. So, if Lee is right:

“There is another film that we’re developing that I think we’ll be announcing in the next, say, month or two. Then, I’m hopeful there’s a ‘Ballerina 2,’ and ‘John Wick 5,’ and lots of other things. But we’re developing a lot of stuff and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand management and Wick universe is my utmost priority.”

What Could a John Wick Movie Not Yet Announced Be About?

For now, we can only guess what this unannounced movie is about, but we can hope it gives us the fight between Akira (Rina Sawayama) and Caine (Donnie Yen) that the end credits scene of John Wick: Chapter 4 teases. Also, Lee should think about Ballerina 2 already since the upcoming spinoff will feature a new action heroine who could be the next John Wick. But John Wick 5 is the most confusing thing on Lee’s list. At the end of Chapter 4, John dies as a free man, and bringing him back from the grave could make his death less sad.

No matter what, things should become clearer in the next couple of months when Lionsgate says what the unannounced movie is about. Later this year, we’ll also be able to watch The Continental, and since Ballerina is already being made, the franchise’s future is safe for now.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is out in theaters right now. Keep an eye out for more surprises from our interview with Lee. You can watch our interview with Shamier Anderson and Hiroyuki Sanada, in which they talk about fight scenes and dogs, below:
