Week 17 NFL Get Pool Tips, Analysis

A review of last week’s selection analysis

Last week we discussed three groups: Minnesota, Cincinnati, and New York aircraft. In an unusual twist, the upset pick with the Jets hit, while the other two, where we got the favorite (as the Bengals had moved into a small game favorite) didn’t. The Cincinnati game made a big comeback, but then a loss at the end of overtime.

The Value of Options for Week 17 NFL Tanks

Getting the most advantage in the NFL pick ’em team requires that you know not only the odds of winning each team (that is, how risky an option is), but also how popular an option is. Why; Because when you select less popular teams and you win, you shoot the pool rankings in your office.

Based on your odds of winning and popularity, the three teams below offer some of the best opportunities to differentiate your Week 16 picks from your team’s opponents. Favorite value

Week 17 features a favorite that the public picks up at a slower rate than their chance of winning. These types of teams are as close as you can get to the “no brainer picks” in NFL pick ’em contests, as both returns and value are on your side.

Tennessee Titans (in Houston)

This week’s theme is groups with different motivations and the public is not fully recording these differences. In any other week, the Titans would be a little underdog with this game played in Houston. But the Texans know they are locked up to host a wild card weekend game, and they also know that their most likely opponent, Buffalo, is seed no. 5 and most probably the starters will rest.

Tennessee, meanwhile, needs a win to get into the playoffs. The combination of the Titans going all out to make the postseason and Houston not having to treat this one as a must-win has the Titans as their favorite bet. Tennessee is currently the favorite of 3.5 points and we have a 64% chance of winning.

The public, however, has so far treated this game as if both teams had the same motivation and favored Houston in particular. Only 26% of the audience so far is up to the Titans to win. Given these differences, Tennessee is a high value game this week.

Publication

When a matchup is more or less a 50/50 proposition, it usually makes sense to select the least popular team. To win an NFL pick ’em pool, you’ll probably need some luck in these “coin flip” games, and when you get it, you want to maximize the upside by scoring points that most of your opponents are missing. We say “usually” because this strategy could be different if you drive your pool slowly and want to cover the most likely option your opponents will make. So for our subscribers, make sure you use the tips you’ve tailored to your ranking when deciding on this type of replication.

Chicago Bears (in Minnesota)

The Vikings were locked in seed no. NFC 6 after their Monday night loss to Green Bay. This result means that Minnesota has nothing to gain with a win and is likely to play without enough starters. The spread is just one point in favor of the Vikings.

With 92% popularity of choice, this makes this an extreme game when it comes to a popular toss. You can basically get a flip flip on the bears in this one, where the audience is heavy the other way around. If we defend a place in the rankings, you may want to stay in public here. But if we’re trying to make ground, this is a basic 17-swing game.

Value Gambles

If you are going to make a bet on an underdog, you need to make sure that the potential reward (that is, how much your chances of winning your pool will increase if your bet is paid) is as high as possible. Take a bunch of extra risks in a super modern upset option, and the joke is on you.

The selection below is not suitable for all groups. These are the ideal choices for a week-long pool with a higher number of entrants and may also be the type of options you should start taking if you are running out of money or a little out of the money and need to gain some ground when the leaders it’s probably a zombie.

New York Jets (in Buffalo)

The Jets hit last week as upset value and are making another appearance this week. But this time, Buffalo, who is locked in the play-offs of the playoffs, contributes to value. Accounts are likely to rest for starters, and the Jets are only 1.5 points out. The public gets Buffalo a ridiculous high 94 percent of the time. Public account popularity on the accounts would be high even if it weren’t for Week 17 and could potentially lead to a Jets disruption call.

But with the bills most likely to treat this as a preseason contest, it will become a top value disorder pick in Week 17.

Week 17 NFL Survivor Pool Pick Tips, Analysis

Overview of last week’s Survivor Analysis

Seattle, the most popular choice for the public, lost to Arizona, taking away the remaining 22%. This was the largest public loss, with 36% of the public eliminated.

For our suggestions, Indianapolis led the way in teams that had gone from Week 1 and the Colts won comfortably. However, the Chargers were our most common recommendation in late-start pools and were lost to the Raiders. Our recommendations were not as high in Seattle, though we recommend them at 9%. Overall, our recommendations were eliminated by 42%. The removal rate was lower in groups starting at week 1 (26%) but much higher at pools later.

For the whole season (with weekly survival rates), the public is expected to survive at this point 0.2 percent of the time, versus 0.7 percent for our recommendations.

Week 17 survivor pool destruction

The Los Angeles Rams is the most popular public option this week in survivor groups at 26%. The Rams have the sixth best point spread this week, favored by seven in Arizona. This means there are some better values out there, but the big issue late in the season is availability.

No other group is selected by more than nine percent of the public. The next most popular options are New England Patriots (nine percent), Dallas Cowboys (eight percent), and Managers of Kansas City (seven percent), all teams that are bigger favorites than the Rams.

These are the most popular options, but there are some other options we also recommend to our subscribers this week. If you need help deciding who to use this week, check out the NFL Survivor Picks product for tips tailored to you.
