Extension of the mission of the United Nations Mission in Libya (3) months

The UN Security Council unanimously voted to extend the mission of the United Nations Mission in Libya for a period of only three months, until next July 31st.

The draft resolution presented by the United Kingdom was to extend the mission of the United Nations political mission in Libya for a period of only three months, to ask the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to speed up the appointment of a new envoy based in Tripoli.

The resolution also requires the UN Secretary-General to submit a monthly report on its implementation until the end of July.

After the resignation of the former United Nations envoy in Libya, Jan Kubis, last November, the Security Council witnessed differences over the mission of the United Nations mission in Libya.

The UN Security Council has extended the mission of the UN mission in Libya, last January, for a period of only three months, ending at the end of April.
