Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg Plans to Launch Twitter Rival Platform to Attract Influential Figures with Millions of Followers

Facebook’s Project92: A Platform to Rival Twitter

Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Facebook, is determined to launch a platform that can compete with Twitter. His goal is to attract renowned personalities, including media personality Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama, who have millions of followers.

According to a report from tech news site The Verge, the standalone app has the name in code Project92 and could be as generic as Thread.

Facebook’s Reply to Twitter

In an internal meeting on Thursday, Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, stated that Facebook and Instagram’s owner created the app as a response to Twitter. Cox further added that content creators and public figures seek a dependable and trustworthy platform for distribution, possibly alluding to Elon Musk’s management of Twitter.

Millions of Followers

Cox reportedly said Mita is in discussions with Oprah Winfrey, who has more than 42 million Twitter followers, and the Dalai Lama, who has nearly 19 million, as potential users, adding that coding for the app began in January and will be available “as soon as possible.” Perhaps”.

According to previous reports, the app will be based on Instagram, and users can log in with their Instagram username and password, bringing their followers, user bio, and verification into the new app.

Cox said the app needed to be “secure, easy to use, and reliable” and to give creators “a solid place to build and grow their audience.”

Twitter Disturbances

Interestingly, Twitter has been through a turbulent time under Musk’s leadership, even though the Tesla boss insisted the platform’s user base hasn’t declined since he bought the company last October.

Musk said, weeks after buying Twitter, that the number of daily active users had hit an all-time high of more than 250 million.

However, as an advertising-dependent company, Twitter faces financial problems.

Ad Revenue Concerns

According to recent reports, there has been an advertiser boycott due to certain concerns regarding the moderation of standard platforms and Twitter’s subscription service. These concerns have led to a significant increase in the number of fake verified accounts, which is troubling.

The New York Times reported that Twitter’s ad revenue has fallen by 59% during the first week of May compared to the same period last year, which shows that people are worried about the platform.

To address these concerns, Linda Iaccarino, a TV advertising executive at NBCUniversal, has been named as Twitter’s new CEO.

Recently, a screenshot of a Twitter-like interface with blue checkmarks, profile pictures, and Like, Reply, and Retweet buttons has been shared by The Verge.
