The Israeli government on Monday ordered telecommunications companies to step up their cybersecurity efforts, following increased hacking attempts.
The Ministry of Communications and the Israeli National Cybersecurity Agency said they are currently in new regulations implementation course to work with standard mandatory and uniform.
Under the new regulations, companies must develop plans to secure communication networks using a combination of monitoring and control mechanisms in order to draw a modern framework for protecting against electronic attacks while preserving privacy.
Communications Minister Yoaz Hendel said in a press conference: “We are trying to impose it standard right to telecommunications companies in order to protect Israel and establish a sort of iron dome to protect against attacks aimed at cyber security. We suffer from thousands of cyber attacks every year. “Public”.
Israel uses the Iron Dome system to intercept rockets launched by Palestinian militants, mainly from the Gaza Strip.
Hendel said cyber risks are in increase with increasing digitization in Israel.
“Communications networks are an attractive target for cyber attacks by hostile elements,” Hendel added, noting the potential damage, disruption of services and loss of stored information.
Cybersecurity firm Check Point says there is a 137% annual increase in average weekly attacks on Israeli businesses, and the number of these attacks reached around 1,500 per week in the first three months of 2022.
Gabi Portnoy, the new head of cybersecurity in Israel said Israel has seen a sharp rise in attacks attempting to block sites web. He accused the Iranians of carrying out many of these attacks.
Portnoy said Israeli telecom companies enjoy a high level of cybersecurity, but that new regulations that include a higher level of oversight would be an improvement.
