Fallout 76 gets a free weekend and a Halloween do-over in December

Beginning December 12, players who do not own Fallout 76 will be able to play the game for free until December 16. Anyone who owns Fallout 76 can soon receive double XP and a chance to win a Christmas booty, both for Christmas and Halloween.

The Fallout 76 free trial will be available shortly after Update 16 for the online multiplayer Fallout game this coming weekend. According to Bethesda, Update 16 will be released on Tuesday, December 10th. This will result in a Battle Royale-style Nuclear Winter mode map and new privacy settings for private worlds.

From 12 December, Fallout 76 will get into a holiday mood with hostile holiday fires, wear the Santa gear, and drop gifts of varying value. Players can also get a free Santatron from the Atomic Shop of the game. Santatron roams the area near your CAMP to collect treats such as sweets, toys and coal for you.

In addition, players have almost a month to attend public holidays, including a make-up week for a Halloween event that ended earlier than expected. Here are the dates for the events where players can get cosmetic goodies:

“Nightmare Preceding Christmas” (formerly “Halloween”) Challenge Details:

  • Start Date: Wednesday, December 11th, 7:00 pm ET
  • End date: Monday, December 16, 19:00 ET

Details on the Christmas challenge:

  • Start date: Tuesday, December 17, 19:00 ET
  • End Date: Monday, January 6, at 19:00 ET

Console players need an active Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus subscription to play the free trial. The trial does not contain Wastelanders content, but the base game is free throughout the trial. Any progress made during the free trial will be transferred to the full game if you choose to buy, provided you use the same account.
