Female Stars Reject Clarkson Over Meghan Column, Celebrity Millionaire Shelved

At least three female celebrities have pulled out of filming the ITV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? due to host Jeremy Clarkson’s comments about the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. Originally, production in Manchester was postponed due to “scheduling issues”, but it has now been revealed that the female stars had agreed to appear before backing out due to their disapproval of Clarkson’s misogynistic comments. An unnamed source said that the female stars “didn’t want to share a platform with Clarkson and, in doing so, risk being seen to legitimise his misogynistic comments”. The source also stated that the stars were aware that they did not want their chosen charities to be involved in any backlash. ITV declined to comment on the female stars pulling out and speculation has arisen that the network may part ways with Clarkson. Clarkson has hosted the show since 2018 and recently provoked fury by writing in his column in The Sun how he wanted Meghan to be “paraded naked through the streets” and “dreams of people throwing excrement at her”. He later revealed that he had emailed Harry and Meghan an apology and stated that TV bosses were furious with him. Amazon will stop working with him after next year when his current deal ends. Despite this, a petition calling for him to keep hosting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? has now hit 60,000 signatures.
