Final Agreement Drafting Committee in Sudan Aiming to Finish Task Soon

The spokesperson for the political process in Sudan’s Khaled Omar Youssef said the committee that drafted the final agreement, made up of 11 civilian force members who signed the framework agreement and one representative each from the army and Rapid Support Forces, held his first meeting at the Palazzo della Repubblica today, Thursday.

Youssef said the committee completed, in this meeting, a draft proposal related to the two issues of the implementation of the agreement pace of Juba and the completion of transitional justice, noting that he agreed to be in continuous session, with two sessions per day, in so that he can fulfill his mission.

The spokesperson indicated that the meeting discussed the development of a preamble to the final agreement and a chapter on final provisions, in addition to existing chapters in the framework agreement, with the addition of five annexed protocols dealing with issues that the framework agreement has deferred discussion, including the implementation of the agreement pace of Juba and the completion of transitional justice.

He added that the commission will seek to complete drafting the full draft of the final agreement within “a few days”, in preparation to submit it to the joint political mechanism comprising all parties for approval and signing of the final political agreement according to the agreed time.

Youssef announced last Sunday that the civil and military parties had agreed to sign the definitive political agreement in the country on April 1 next.

He added that it was also agreed to sign the transitional constitution on the 6th of next month.
