Within a matter of minutes, social media went from– oh my God! the Flames traded Gaudreau! To oh, um, yea, no, never ever mind.
Here’s a fast timeline of just what took place on Monday in what is now being called: #peegate.
1: 21 p.m. ET
Tweets start flying from the Flames media in participation at practice in Boston when Gaudreau leaves practice early– approximately 99 minutes (yep, 99 minutes) from the trade due date.
1: 28 p.m. ET
While everybody held their cumulative breath to see where the Flames winger was going– Colorado? New York City Islanders? Toronto?– the reports were stopped within a couple of minutes.

So just what took place? Why did the veteran Flames star leave practice early?
According to Postmedia’s Wes Gilbertson, it was quite easy:
“I didn’t think it was going to be that big of a deal,” Gaudreau informed press reporters with a smile, keeping in mind practice was practically done and head coach Geoff Ward stated he might go, leading to his phone exploding.
“Next time I will hold it in as long as I can, until practice is over.”
