Former Manchester United striker Nani joins Melbourne Victory

LONDON: Australian Football League’s Melbourne Victory announced on Tuesday the inclusion of former Manchester United striker Nani into the English Premier League on a two-year contract. The Portuguese winger has signed an 18-month contract with the club Serie A Venice last January, but left the club by mutual agreement last week after playing 10 games with the club relegated. The 35-year-old spent eight years in England with United, winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008. His playing career also included spells with Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbahce, Valencia, Lazio and Orlando City in the NBA. Nani scored 24 goals in 112 games with Portugal and played in the 2014 World Cup and in three European championships, including the 2016 edition, where Portugal defeated France in the final. “We are proud to be able to bring a player like Nani to ours club and we believe he will be a great asset to Melbourne’s victory and the entire A-League, “said manager Tony Popovich. Melbourne Victory will face four-time champions Manchester United in a friendly at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. (Reuters)
