Former policeman Derek Chauvin pleads guilty to violating George Floyd’s civil rights

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pleaded guilty to violating civil rights of George Floyd in the events which led to his death. Chauvin had already been sentenced of murder and manslaughter.

Chauvin appeared on Wednesday in court for its change of plea hearing. The former officer pleaded guilty to federal charges, which include two counts of violate civil rights of Floyd, who died on May 25, 2020 while being arrested and held by Chauvin.

The allegations claimed that Chauvin failed to defend Floyd’s rights as he knelt on the neck while the prone man was handcuffed and could not resist arrest, and that he failed to provide medical treatment.
