Fortnite downtime starts today (Image: EPIC GAMES)
With fans counting down until the launch of Chapter 3, Epic Games has revealed its plans to launch its next major Fortnite update.
Patch 18.40 is now ready to be released following a week-long delay across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Mobile and PC platforms.
The good news is that the new update will add fresh content to the game, and with just a few more weeks until the current season ends, there is plenty of hype surrounding what could be coming next.
There’s fierce debate regarding whether recent hints suggest that Chapter 3 will be kicking off during 2021, or if fans will have to wait a few months into 2022.
Whatever happens next, fans will be looking closely at each new Fortnite update as we get closer to the end of the current season.
The new patch is expected to add Naruto themed content, including a Hidden Leaf Village creative hub and exclusive cosmetic items to collect.
A new trailer is expected to go live as soon as Fortnite downtime begins later today, and this will include all the latest news on the next crossover event.
New Challenges and modes are expected to be announced but we won’t know for sure until Epic Games releases its patch notes for November 16, which is expected to happen in the coming hours.
Expectations are also high that this will be the final big Fortnite update of the current season and that there will be some clues left to how things will wrap in the upcoming weeks.
Fans are hopeful of another big event but nothing has been guaranteed and the big fireworks could be saved for whenever Chapter 3 begins with its new island.
HOW LONG ARE FORTNITE SERVERS DOWN?
Fortnite downtime for update 18.40 is scheduled to start at 9am GMT in Europe, and 4am EDT if you live in North America on Tuesday, November 16.
Today’s maintenance period could last several hours, although Epic Games has not warned that it will be overly long on Twitter.
They have provided a maximum time limit for today’s Fortnite downtime, with maintenance expected to end before Midday BST.
A message from the Fortnite support team reads: “Believe it!
“The v18.40 Update is scheduled for release on November 16. Downtime will begin at 4 AM ET (08:00 UTC), with matchmaking being disabled 30 minutes prior.”
As mentioned above, Fortnite servers will start shutting down 30 minutes before 9am BST, meaning you could be kicked from live matches.
