France bans unvaccinated Americans to enter

(CNN) — France has become latest European country — and top tourist destination — to remove the United States from its safe journey list, according to EU recommendations in the wake of an American Covid spike.

A French government decree issued on Thursday bumped the United States and Israel of the “green” of the country list, down to “orange”, effectively banning non-essential travel to France for unvaccinated visitors.

Among the French rules, unvaccinated travelers from both countries are still allowed in provided they are an essential reason for travel, but they will need a negative Covid-19 test before departure and must in quarantine for seven days on arrival.

France’s move follow imposed restrictions on American travelers from several other European destinations. Earlier this week, Spain changed his entry policy for arrivals from the US, where they must have a certificate proving that double vaccination.

Covid-ravaged economies

Italy last week began to demand that all visitors, including die from the United States, show proof of a PCR of antigen Covid test taken within 72 hours of travel regardless of of they have been vaccinated.

Many European travel destinations previously opened their borders to Americans in the summer in the hope of attracting much-needed tourist dollars to boost Covid-battered economies.

Now the Delta variant of Covid is over spreading across the US, some countries, including Germany, had already started restricting access to Americans prior to the EU recommendation. Others, like Greece, insist they will remain open regardless of vaccination status of travelers.
