2K has founded a new internal studio called Cloud Chamber, which will take over the next title in the BioShock series. The game will be “in development for the next few years”.
The developer will work in two locations: 2K’s headquarters in Novato, California, and a new studio in Montreal, Quebec, and Cloud Chamber will be led by Kelley Gilmore. Gilmore has worked within 2K in executive production, marketing and PR for almost 20 years, including the franchises Civilization and XCOM.
“We are a very experienced group of game makers,” Gilmore said in a press release, “including many who are responsible for the main development, evolution and long-term reputation of BioShock, and it is an honor for us to be part of the 2K family as stewards to be this legendary franchise. “
Ken Schachter, general manager of Zynga in Toronto and founder of indie developer / publisher Trapdoor (who co-released Fez and released Warp 2012), will be the studio manager for the Montréal site.
Earlier this year, 2K also opened a studio in Silicon Valley, led by former Sledgehammer Games founders Glenn Schofield and Michael Condrey.
