6 Must-Play Games for the Nintendo Switch
Summary
Limbo
The Limbo game has an atmosphere of its own. It is recognizable thanks to its graphics, mixing darkness with bright light. The app is a side-scroller in 2D and embodies an unnamed young boy, who wanders in limbo. The latter is looking for his sister, but nightmares get in the way. Limbo’s lead developer, Arnt Jensen, set himself three goals during programming. The man wanted to transcribe a specific atmosphere and artistic style, without lines of dialogue, and with only two commands (jump and grab). This leaves more room for interpretation for the players, to better immerse them in the adventure.
Oxenfree
Oxenfree takes us to a mysterious island that hides many secrets. Alex soon discovers that multiple paranormal events are taking place in the area, which derail from normal temporality. She will have to do everything to stop an enigmatic and potentially dangerous force. The young girl is accompanied by her friends, who find themselves involuntarily involved and must make sure not to break their relations. The gameplay of Oxenfree is quite simple and is based on a mechanic called “walking and talking”. Alex will also have a radio, which allows her to pick up hidden messages on the airwaves and unlock mechanisms.
Pico Park
Pico Park is a crazy app to play with friends, for 2 to 8 players. It consists of a series of levels where each time you have to get the key to get out. Only, the title requires a lot of coordination, as players have to help each other. However, it is also possible to block the movements of others for fun. Different modes are available in addition to the classic mode. The Battle Mode allows you to test several mini-games where players compete against each other. For example, in one of them, users have to jump to dodge a cannonball. If the ball hits the player, they die. Endless Mode grants new challenges and new gameplay.
Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter
The famous Sherlock Holmes came to the Nintendo Switch in 2022 with Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter, the sequel to Crimes & Punishments. In this new adventure, the detective will have to solve five cases, accompanied by his friend John Watson. Only, his investigations will be disturbed by the arrival of the young Katelyn. This is the daughter of his enemy Moriarty, who recently deceased. The majority of the gameplay focuses on solving crimes. The player must, each time, unearth the clues scattered at the crime scenes, but depending on their conclusion, the outcome will be different. They have no certainty of finding the culprit.
Sonic Mania
Summer may also be the time to rediscover the adventures of Sonic. Sonic Mania is a software which was developed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the hedgehog and which returns to the mechanics that made the success of the mascot. The player has the option of embodying three characters (Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails) in settings and with gameplay similar to the first titles released in the 90s. Among other things, it offers “remixed zones”, such as the famous Green Hill Zone from Sonic (1991). A series of DLCs were released following the success of Sonic Mania. Soberly titled Plus, it contains many bonuses. It is worth mentioning that the software also serves as a prequel to Sonic Forces.
Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition
We cheat a little with Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition, as it is a little more expensive by a few cents. In this app, the player embodies a lowly slime farmer on a distant planet. They will have to help him build his ranch and collect all species of creatures. It will also be necessary to build fields to feed them, so that they produce plorts (the local currency). By varying their diet and making them reproduce, it is possible to make them evolve and discover new monsters. Slime Rancher is above all a cute title without the fuss, which allows you to have a good time. (end of promotion August 22)
