“Activision Cracks Down on Cheaters in Call of Duty”
Activision has taken action against cheaters in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, banning over 6,000 accounts following a surge in reports of cheating within the community. The publisher has disabled game code for time-limited perks like super speed and is testing additional security updates to ensure fair gameplay.
As part of the ongoing security updates, a telemetry system was temporarily taken offline for upgrades, prompting cheat developers to claim that RICOCHET Anti-Cheat was offline, which was not the case. As a result of monitoring activity, over 6,000 accounts were identified and banned for cheating and hacking between February 16 and February 20.
The team is continuing to work on security updates to address issues across various modes in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare III.
In related news, Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 2 launched in early February, introducing new multiplayer maps, a War map, another Zombies story mission, the return of the Resurgence map Fortune’s Keep in Warzone, and a crossover with The Walking Dead.
The crackdown on cheating comes at a time when top-ranked lobbies have been plagued by blatant cheaters, tarnishing the Call of Duty experience for many players.
