World of Warcraft has such a big world to discover that it was built over 16 years. Crossing old zones to new locations added in WoW Shadowlands can often feel like a chore – but luckily, mounts are here to give your legs a bit of rest, so they don’t get all over Azeroth and beyond run.
Mounts are often the first thing people want to unlock in order to optimize their experience. With hundreds of mounts to unlock and buy, there are hundreds of ways to express your personal style in the MMO.
While most areas have the option to use mounts up to the forthcoming The Chains of Domination 9.1 patch has been released, players cannot call them out in Hell’s Maw. Here’s everything you need to know about getting started.
WoW Shadowlands Mount Level Requirements
Getting started with mounts in WoW Shadowlands is pretty easy. To unlock the driving skills, all you need to do is reach the initial level 10 requirement.
With Shadowland’s new starting zone, Exile’s Reach, this is a hassle-free, easy task that will get you leveling up before you know it.
Go to the player icon on the map above, where you will find Maztha as the Horde player to unlock riding.
When you’ve reached level 10, go to the appropriate capital for your faction and speak to the trainers listed below:
- Alliance: Bralla Cloudwing in storm wind (Darlene Stokx, in the old town of Stormwind, you can also teach horse riding, but not fly)
- Horde: Maztha in Orgrimmar
Unlike Darlene Stokx, Bralla can teach you both to ride and to fly – so it’s easier to upgrade with her.
How to improve your driving skills to unlock faster mounts
As you continue your leveling experience in Shadowlands, you can further increase your riding speed to a maximum of 280% by simply visiting the above-mentioned trainers at different levels.
If requirements, costs, and speed increases change after Patch 9.1 is released, we’ll update you here. However, currently, these are:
- Riding apprentice (level 10) – The initial riding skill gives you a speed of 60% | 4 gold
- Journeyman Riding (Level 20) – The second level of driving skills increases the speed of the ground assembly to 100% | 50 gold
- Expert riding (level 30) – The third level of riding skill increases the speed of your flying mount by up to 150% 250 gold
- Master riding (level 40) – The fourth and final level of driving skills limits your flight speed to 280% 5000 gold
Mounts in World of Warcraft and Shadowlands content are account-free, which means that any alts created in the future will have access to them once the initial level requirement has been met. Any mounts that you buy or unlock once you’ve reached the initial level requirement of 10 can be used by all characters.
After reaching level 30, players can also ride flying mounts. For more information, see our dedicated flight guide.
Race mounts in WoW
While three classes, the Death Knights, Paladins, and Warlocks, all receive a mount when they reach level 10 (and Druids have their respective travel form abilities), you’ll need to make your way to the mount vendors of their respective races found in Azeroth – the easiest way to claim a Rassenberg if you don’t already have one.
If you achieve a high reputation with the other races, you can purchase the appropriate mounts from these vendors as well. You can find vendors offering these either in the starting areas of your race or in the Capitol of your chosen faction. We have listed the name of each mount vendor below:
