Bulkhead Announces Refund for Battalion 1944 Backers

The development studio Bulkhead, along with parent company Splash Damage, has announced that all Kickstarter backers of Battalion 1944 are eligible for a refund, no questions asked. This refund applies to backers regardless of platform, pledge tier, or time played in the game.

“When we launched the Battalion 1944 Kickstarter, our goal was to recapture the core of classic multiplayer shooters. This resonated with our backers, who provided the financial support to bring this vision to life,” said Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer.

“While we couldn’t fully deliver on all of our initial promises, especially the release of the console version, we wouldn’t be here without the initial Kickstarter support. We want to express our gratitude to our backers for believing in the project as strongly as we did. As we were unable to accomplish all of our goals, we have decided to offer full refunds to all of our original Kickstarter backers,” Brammer continued.

Bulkhead raised £317,000 for Battalion 1944 through Kickstarter. The game was originally planned for release on Xbox One and PS4 following its full PC release in May 2019, but the console versions never came to fruition.

Splash Damage, which acquired Bulkhead in late 2022, will be emailing Kickstarter backers with details on how to claim their refunds.

“There have been times when we fell short of our promises and let our community down,” acknowledged Splash Damage CEO Richard Jolly. “In partnership with Bulkhead, we are committed to learning from these experiences and taking action. We believe this is the best way to honor the support and loyalty that the Battalion community has shown us.”

In addition to the refund announcement, Bulkhead also provided an update on their original IP.

“Working with Splash Damage, the creators of Enemy Territory, has been a dream come true for us,” Brammer stated. “They have been generous in sharing their own expertise and understanding the challenges we have faced. They are also a studio driven by community feedback and have a wealth of experience to offer as we continue to develop Wardogs. With their support, I am confident it will be our best game yet.”
