Bungie Shakes Up Creative Leadership for Marathon Game
Exciting news for fans of Marathon! Bungie has made some changes to the creative leadership team for the upcoming sci-fi extraction shooter. Former game director Christopher Barrett has been replaced by Joe Ziegler, who previously worked on Valorant at Riot Games.
Ziegler took to Twitter to announce his new role as the game director for Marathon. He expressed his excitement about the project and promised to share more details as they get closer to the release date.
Under Ziegler’s leadership, Marathon has undergone some changes, including a shift from custom player characters to a selectable cast of heroes. Additionally, sources have revealed that Bungie was working on other projects, such as a MOBA-like game codenamed Gummy Bears, but it seems to be on hold for now.
There were concerns about Bungie’s independence after being acquired by Sony in 2022. Reports indicated that the studio was struggling to meet financial goals, leading to a cost-cutting plan and layoffs of 100 employees.
Despite these challenges, Bungie remains committed to delivering quality content for its players. The upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape, was delayed but is now set to launch on June 4. However, there are fears of more job cuts following the expansion’s release, as the studio aims to balance costs and ensure the success of projects like Marathon.
Stay tuned for more updates on Marathon and Bungie’s future plans!
