Dbrand’s Killswitch Case Saga: A Bold Response to Joy-Con Detachment Issues
In a surprising turn of events, peripheral maker Dbrand has addressed its ongoing Killswitch saga, admitting that its initial response to Joy-Con detachment complaints was “spectacularly terrible.†Users had voiced concerns that the Killswitch case for the Switch 2 made it too easy to accidentally detach the Joy-Cons, prompting a backlash.
The Initial Fallout
Earlier this week, Dbrand explained that its Joy-Con grips fill a gap designed by Nintendo to make detachment harder. But they later doubled down on social media, suggesting that players were to blame for inadvertently causing the issue. Specifically, issues arise when users hold the Switch 2 by the Joy-Cons alone or parallel to the ground, without supporting the console.
The backlash echoed past controversies, reminiscent of the iPhone 4 reception issues when users were told to just “hold it differently.†Dbrand’s rough initial handling only intensified the conversation, with some customers feeling the company needed to own up to the problem.
Dbrand’s Pledge for Improvement
In a new post on Reddit, Dbrand acknowledged its failure to address the concerns adequately. “It’s clear our post was a spectacularly terrible response,†the company stated. They committed to fixing the issue and promised every user would receive a free replacement set of Joy-Con grips, regardless of whether they faced the detachment problem.
Two new designs are on the horizon: one will have a thinner lip for an improved grip, while the second aims to eliminate the detachment issue altogether. The catch? Dbrand isn’t sure if the second solution is feasible for mass production. The company is preparing for a mass production trial to test out this new design.
Despite the trials, Dbrand made it clear that they couldn’t hold back orders while waiting for a new solution. Speedy resolution for all affected customers remains a top priority, ensuring that even those who haven’t faced issues still get the new grips ASAP.
