Bungie continues to experiment with Destiny 2’s cosmetics business, the Eververse. And in the coming Dawning Season, the store is changing again – this time out of an effort to be a little friendlier to the players.
Destiny 2 offers two currencies for the in-game store: silver, which was bought with real money, and Bright Dust, which was earned by playing the game. In Bungie’s first year as an independent studio, more items were placed in Silver Only status than ever before. Players can only buy items weekly with their Bright Dust, while most Silver items are available throughout the season.
According to a recent Bungie blog post, “Season of the Undying – Destiny 2” fall season saw only 50% of Bright Dust’s Eververse items on sale. If players choose to buy one of the many items that are not available for sale on Bright Dust, they will need to collect $ 7 to $ 8 in silver. In addition, the players had no idea which items the studio would someday sell for Bright Dust and which only for silver.
Bungie agrees with the players that the number of articles available for Bright Dust in Season of the Undying was too low and the lack of communication of the business led to frustrating situations. Starting Season of Dawn, the Eververse store offers around 80% of the seasonal items for Bright Dust and Silver. And the studio will clarify on its social channels which new items are never offered for sale for Bright Dust.
The studio also stated that it needs the Eververse Store to fund the development of Destiny 2. “Offering a certain amount of silver-only Eververse content is part of ensuring that we are able to fund our ability to continue to create and sustain fate and to support the fate-producing team,” said Bungie. Silver-only items are largely new to Destiny in 2019. Previously, players earned a random loot box filled with new extras by playing the game.
All of these changes made by Eververse hit Destiny 2 on Tuesday, December 10th, along with Season of Dawn.
