Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm has always put a lot of production work into his streams. From cutaways to fake car chases to mid-match music videos, Dr. med. Disrespect created Persona Beahm all about a show for the spectators. Now that Beahm has signed a deal with Skybound Entertainment, the production company co-founded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, he has the potential to bring this showmanship to television.
Under this new agreement, originally announced by The Hollywood Reporter, Beahm and Skybound will develop a television series of screenplay narratives based on Dr. Disrespect based. The series would focus on “how the doctor became a doctor,” a kind of origins story for Beahm’s Twitch personality.
Beahm told the Hollywood reporter that the show was “quite early in terms of creativity and the direction we want to take them”, but he also noted that there had been “some early discussions about animation”.
Before he started streaming, Beahm worked at Sledgehammer Games as Community Manager and later as a Level Designer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. In 2015, Beahm left Sledgehammer to stream full-time. His Dr Disrespect Stream debut began in 2017 with the launch of PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds. While he has had phenomenal success ever since, Beahm has been at the center of much controversy in recent years.
At the end of 2017, Beahm publicly announced an extramarital affair. After that, Beahm paused for a short while before returning to a record number of viewers. Beahm was again scrutinized at this year’s E3 video game show as he brought his still-rolling cameras into the Convention Center’s bathroom during his first IRL stream – a crime in the State of California. This stream resulted in a brief ban on its streaming channel on Twitch.
However, Beahm is not the only streamer to turn his personality into a medium beyond play. Tyler “Ninja” Blevins has commercialized his on-stream personality far beyond the world of Fortnite and released a narrative comic book earlier this year. Something in this direction for Beahm does not seem to lie outside the possibilities, since Skybound also works in comics.
Since Beahm’s Skybound show is still in the early days of production, he will continue to focus on streaming for the time being. While many content creators have switched to platforms such as YouTube, Mixer or Facebook Gaming, Beahm will continue its stream on Twitch as in recent years.
