Bardock awakens in a modest rural house after escaping certain death after Frieza demolishes Planet Vegeta. Ipana, a purple-colored monster, enters the room and presents himself. He informs Bardock that he is on Planet Plant, the original name of Planet Vegeta before the Saiyans took it, as the befuddled Bardock recalls. Suddenly, the settlement is attacked by supporters of the space pirate Chilled, whom Bardock easily beats, winning him the people’s gratitude. He escapes to a neighboring cave to heal, not wanting to be a hero. Despite Bardock’s reservations, Ipana’s son Berry gives him food, and they gradually become friendly.
Chilled discovers that his supporters have been murdered. After the villagers fail to learn Bardock as ordered by Chilled, he and his allies begin assaulting and destroying the settlement. After Berry begs him, Bardock flies to the village and saves Ipana, who was nearly slain by Chilled. Bardock misidentifies Chilled as Frieza and assaults him, but Chilled proves too powerful. On the other hand, Bardock becomes infuriated and changes into a Super Saiyan after Chilled fires an energy strike at Berry. Chilled assaults Bardock with energy blasts that are ineffective against the Super Saiyan.
Chilled fires one last desperate effort to destroy the planet, but Bardock’s onslaught overwhelms it, sending the terminally wounded Chilled hurtling into space. Chilled, who is dying, advises his allies to warn his family of Super Saiyans.
Centuries later, Chilled’s descendant Frieza would destroy Planet Vegeta in fear of a legendary Super Saiyan rising to challenge him. More than two decades later, Goku, Bardock’s son, would take on the Super Saiyan form and destroy Frieza.
