What is The Plot of Dragon Ball Z: Bardock?
Bardock, a low-level Saiyan soldier, and his squad have been tasked with slaughtering the people of Planet Kanassa. They achieve this by transforming into Great Apes during the planet’s full moon. The next day, Bardock and his crew rest and enjoy their triumph until one of the last remaining Kanassan warriors catches him off guard and chooses to offer him the “gift” of seeing the future as a way to revenge his people before being murdered by Bardock, who then passes out. Bardock meets his young son, Kakarot, on Planet Vegeta to recuperate.
The latter is being prepared for deployment to Earth to eliminate all life on the planet. Bardock begins to witness Kakarot facing future opponents and Planet Vegeta being destroyed by Frieza, the ruler of the Universe and supervisor of the Saiyans. Bardock rejects the visions and rejoins his squad on Planet Meat, only to learn that most of them have died and his best buddy Tora has been critically injured. Before succumbing to his injuries, Tora explains that Bardock’s team was betrayed and slain by Frieza’s henchman Dodoria and his elite warriors and that Frieza authorized the attack on the crew due to his rising paranoia over the Saiyans’ growing might.
He attacks Dodoria’s warriors, terrified and outraged by his deceased friend’s final words. He beats them all, only to be quickly defeated by Dodoria’s one-mouth blast. He is hurt, but he can return to Planet Vegeta. Realizing Frieza’s plan to annihilate the whole Saiyan race, Bardock tries to persuade the other Saiyans of the danger they are all in. Nonetheless, his assertions are dismissed and ignored. As a result, Bardock launches a last one-person attack against Frieza and his soldiers. After defeating Frieza’s soldiers, Bardock unleashes a powerful energy blast on the dictator himself. On the other hand, Frieza responds with his lethal Gigantic Death Ball, killing Bardock and many of his men and destroying Planet Vegeta.
As he dies, Bardock gets one last glimpse of the future: Kakarot battling Frieza. Assured that Kakarot will beat Frieza, Bardock laughs as the energy bomb swallows him and Planet Vegeta. Following his death, Bardock telepathically requests that Kakarot carry out his will and revenge on his people and home planet, expressing his one regret of not being able to hug his kid while he still has the chance. At the same time, Kakarot, hurtling toward Earth in his space pod, awakens. After completing a job on a distant globe, Vegeta, the Saiyan Prince, is informed by his colleague Nappa about the devastation of his homeworld, which Frieza believes was caused by a meteor. Vegeta’s pride prevents him from expressing his amazement, and seems dispassionate. Soon, Kakarot’s space pod lands on Earth, where an older man discovers him; Gohan chuckles blissfully in the older man’s arms. Gohan then adopts the kid as his grandson, naming him Goku. The final credits feature Goku’s battles against the Red Ribbon Army, Tien Shinhan, King Piccolo, Piccolo, Nappa, and Vegeta, culminating with a scene of Goku set to confront Frieza, with the souls of Bardock and his squad watching.
