Epic Games made some big announcements at its annual State of Unreal keynote at GDC on Wednesday. The highlight was the reveal of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, a game being developed by Amy Hennig and set for release in 2025.
Skydance New Media also showcased new features in Unreal Engine 5.4 Preview 1, including tessellation for fine details and software variable rate shading for performance improvements. Animators will benefit from updated tools for rigging, animation authoring, and more.
Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) received updates as well, with the addition of MetaHuman for creating high-fidelity NPCs and new tools for creating Rocket Racing, Fall Guys, and Lego themed islands. Since its launch last year, UEFN has seen over 80,000 islands published and paid out over $320 million to creators.
Epic also announced plans to bring Epic Games Store to mobile later this year, making it the first game-focused, multi-platform store with fair revenue share terms for developers.
