Everything you need to know about Resident Evil 3 before playing the remake

Yesterday we finally got a confirmation for the Resident Evil 3 remake. While last week’s surprise announcement was spoiled by leaks, it’s now official and only a few months away. To make sure that everyone is up to speed, we’ve put together important information that answers some of the questions the trailer has left us.

Who is the nemesis?

The bully of the same name may be familiar with fans of the original RE 3, but newcomers have not seen him yet, as Capcom raised us only with lifeless flashes and a quick glance at his coffin / incubator. According to Capcom, this monstrosity is even “smarter” and “more vicious” than Mr. X. of RE 2. With several weapons, including a rocket launcher, the Nemesis was commissioned to destroy all former S.T.A.R.S. Members. You are his prey.

Who is Jill Valentine?

Jill Valentine is a member of the Special Tactics and Rescue Services (STARS) and one of the protagonists of the original RE and the heroine in RE 3. In the first game, Jill and her partner Chris Redfield reveal a plot by drug giant Umbrella. Under the guise of a murder investigation, Umbrella planned to lock up the agents, steal biological weapons and cover up their illegal experiments. Since Jill and the other surviving agents are unable to gain the support of their superiors, they decide to seek Umbrella alone. In investigating Umbrella in Raccoon City, Jill is implicated in the Raccoon City outbreak described in Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil 3 tells Jill’s experience about the incident.

When will that happen?

Originally planned as a spin-off, RE 3 does not move the plot of the series so much forward that it fills in the details surrounding the events of RE 2’s terrifying and mysterious nemesis. On Jill’s journey, players will discover the fate of Raccoon City, the reason for the emergence of the Nemesis, and why Umbrella has decided to unleash the monster on an already destroyed population.

Are there any other playable characters?

Unlike RE and RE 2, RE 3 contained only one playable character, Jill. However, replayability was still an important factor. Throughout Jill’s history, players had the choice not only to make history, but also to provide unique scenarios later in the game – including new cutscenes, endings, and enemy placements. To see everything, players have to repeat the campaign several times.

What about new mechanics?

The original RE 3 included some updates to the Resident Evil formula, such as the fast spinning and ammunition creation that eventually became the standard for the series. A notable addition that, apart from the evil RE 6, has not been imitated, is an alternate mechanic. Executing an evasive maneuver in RE 3 left something to be desired, but the idea is fantastic. Avoiding enemies such as Lickern is a stroke of luck. Let’s hope Capcom hears our prayers and refreshes the Dodge instead of eliminating it.
