Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida recently revealed that the upcoming expansion will feature many references to Final Fantasy 9, but the reason behind it is being kept secret.

During the announcement at PAX East, Yoshida teased fans with the mysterious connection to Final Fantasy 9 while also revealing some pre-order and digital bonuses for the expansion, titled Dawntrail.
