Final Fantasy 14 will receive Final Fantasy 7’s Ruby Weapon as a boss fight in a February patch.
Patch 5.2 will include the first optional boss fight of the Shadowbringers expansion, which producer Naoki Yoshida has described as a “weapon” according to the current livestream. The stream revealed the name of the fight and a screenshot of the upcoming boss Ruby Weapon. The Extreme version of the fight will also be available in Patch 5.2.
Ruby Weapon is one of the optional fights in Final Fantasy 7 and can be found in the desert once players go to the gold saucer for the first time. Ruby Weapon isn’t the toughest fight in the game – this title is reserved for Emerald Weapon. While the Final Fantasy 14 development team didn’t exactly confirm the appearance of the other weapons, fans are already speculating that we will see Emerald Weapon and Diamond Weapon as bosses in later patches.
Ultima Weapon is already available in Final Fantasy 14 as a boss in a dungeon and as a separate Ultimate fight, which is classified as one of the hardest battles in the game. Many other Final Fantasy titles are also mentioned throughout the game, including Kefka, the antagonist of Final Fantasy 6, as the raid boss. There is even a kidney: Automata raid.
Weapons timing in Final Fantasy 14 is great since Final Fantasy 7 remake will be released on March 3, 2020, shortly after patch 5.2 was released.
