Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a limited-time exclusivity for PS4 until 2021

The Final Fantasy 7 remake will finally be released on March 3, 2020. The updated Box Art shows that it is a PlayStation exclusivity for a one-year period until March 3, 2021.

The updated box graphic was discovered by the eagle eye spy Wario64, which dropped the image on Twitter. The new cover has a sticker in the lower right corner. It is unclear how the exclusivity will be applied to future episodes as the remake is split into several parts.

Announced in 2015 at the Sony E3 press conference, not much information has been released about the scope of the first episode of the remake. At some point, director Tetsuya Nomura said the game had just been announced too soon. Over the past five years, the project has undergone several changes, with the biggest adjustment being a change in the developers. Originally, the remake was handled by an outsourcing company called CyberConnect2, which had experience with the Naruto game series. Since 2017, the production takes place in-house.

Apart from a misstep by the German Xbox team that inadvertently posted a trailer in July, Square Enix made no official announcements about versions of Final Fantasy 7 remake for Xbox One or Windows PC. However, the news of the timed exclusivity just confirms that more platforms will eventually see the game.
