Final Fantasy XVI: The version PC finally confirmed!
Arriving on the second day of summer, Final Fantasy XVI has generally convinced. Square Enix’s title has indeed inherited a Metascore of 87/100 and a user rating of 8.0, which is more than honorable. Impressive at many times, Final Fantasy 16 has however revived the debate on the nature even franchise. Cut into open areas, with action-oriented combat and offering only one directly playable character in the person of Clive Rosfield, the title raised a question: is this a “real” Final Fantasy in the sense that it deviates considerably from the codes of the so-called Japanese RPG to get closer to the Western RPG and beat’em up like Devil May Cry?
Critics have also been leveled against side quests considered uninteresting, exploration limited, or even vis-à-vis influences, including that of Game of Thrones. Remains a title with dantesque fights, a universe full of magic, and an enjoyable gameplay that one learns to control. At the moment, Final Fantasy XVI is only available on PS5, but since the announcement of the game and the brief appearance of the mention “PC”, it was suspected that the studio was preparing another version.
On the occasion of a presentation of Final Fantasy XVI at PAX, Naoki Yoshida formalized what everyone knew without being able to affirm it, the development of the PC version! Final Fantasy XVI’s days as a PS5 exclusive are therefore numbered. For the moment, no release date has been announced, the porting work having only started at the end of the PS5 version, but YoshiP hopes to be able to tell us more by the end of the year.
Two paid DLCs approaching, and a free update already available
This version could happen around the same time as the DLCs of the title, including on had the confirmation that they will pay. Rest assured, this is not the beginning of an endless list of additional content increasing the cost of the complete game, Naoki Yoshida having repeated that the objective is not to make fifty and that the basic game was enough by itself. Again, you will have to wait since the producer does not want to talk about it for the moment despite the very next Tokyo Game Show.
At the same time, Naoki Yoshida presented version 1.10 of Final Fantasy XVI, already deployed for free. If you own the game, then the download should have happened. Inside, one finds several general improvements, but also alternate outfits for Jill, Clive, Talgor, Ambrosia, and Joshua as well as a new appearance for the hero’s sword. Note, however, that you must have unlocked access to Arcade mode in Cid’s lair to enjoy it. The full patch notes are available in English on Twitter, but here are the key takeaways.
