We finally got the first Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trailer. And though there is not just fire and brimstone coming down from the sky or boiling the rivers and seas, many spirits are waiting to be blown up.
This latest version of Ghostbusters is directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Young Adult), son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. The younger Reitman has said in the past that this new film would be a direct continuation of the original film and its sequel Ghostbusters II. Thanks to the trailer for Afterlife, we finally know what that means.
The film revolves around a family played by Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard who moves to a small town and discovers their hidden secrets. Whatever, probably spooky discoveries that the family makes, they lead directly to some of the old recognizable artifacts of the original Ghostbusters and apparently the original Busters themselves. Some of the original movie’s characters will repeat their roles in this sequel, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. And one of the kids looks just like the late Harold Ramis’ Egon, so you’ll probably be able to see where that leads.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the fourth movie in the Ghostbusters series and the second release recently. The last film, Ghostbusters (2016), was a purely female reboot of the series, which, according to Ivan Reitman, now plays in a different universe. The film was the target of numerous online troll campaigns and ended with mediocre reviews and box office results.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be released on cinemas on July 10, 2020.
