Fans got their first glimpse of the next part of the Gears saga with the release of the Gears Tactics World Premiere trailer at The Game Awards tonight.
First introduced at E3 2018, Gears Tactics is a fast turn-based strategy game and the first game in the series designed for the PC from the ground up. The game will launch on April 28, 2020 in the Windows Store and Steam and is available the same day with the Xbox Game Pass for PC (beta).
Gears Tactics was developed by The Coalition and Splash Damage and set 12 years before the first Gears of War. Cities all over the planet Sera are exposed to the monstrous threat rising from the underground – the grasshopper horde. In the face of government disorder, a group of survivors emerge as the last hope of humanity. Inferior and struggling to survive, players must recruit a squad and order Ukkon, a wicked mastermind who makes monsters, to hunt.
Gears Tactics offers a haunting, character-based story following defiant soldier Gabe Diaz, voiced by Noshir Dala, to rescue and build a squad on a journey of leadership, survival, and sacrifice. When you play as a gift, you can customize your squad and equipment to prepare your troops for tough opponents. In addition, you improve the skills of the squad and equip them with loot, which you have collected in challenging missions.
The aggressive gameplay of Gears Tactics maintains the unmistakable tone and feel of Gears – commanding your squad in rapid, turn-based combat and surviving intense and visceral encounters with the relentless, teeming Enemy of the Locust Horde.
