It’s been a while since we heard anything about Gears Tactics’ real-time strategy game Gears of War, but that’s changing. Microsoft was in Los Angeles on December 12 for The Game Awards to release a new trailer for the RTS – and a release date: April 28, 2020.
The turn-based strategy game was introduced at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. Fergusson showed a brief excerpt of early gameplay at the time, noting that Gears Tactics is a prequel that takes place 12 years before the original Gears of War. Tactics was originally announced as an exclusive Windows PC, but Fergusson said on Twitter this year that it will come after all on Xbox One.
Gears Tactics is being developed by the British studio Splash Damage, which was involved in the development of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Gears of War 4 and Gears 5.
Gears Tactics is the third of three games in the series that Microsoft and The Coalition 2018 announced after Gears 5 and Gears Pop! Gears Tactics will be available for Steam, Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass for PC.
