2019 is almost over, but we have one more contender for your Game of the Year: AI Dungeon 2, a text adventure developed by developer Nick Walton, that lets you type any verb or action you want.

Yes, you read that correctly. Something. Where all games are limited by what the developers program, this game uses OpenAI to create infinitely generated worlds that are limited only by your imagination. If that sounds high, try it. I promise you will be amused. (Note that you may need to reload the game a few times to get it running.)

AI Dungeon 2 offers you several different settings and roles that you can take on. In my first play-through as a scavenger in the post-apocalypse, I seduced a man who led me to a mysterious hut in the woods . where I fell in love with romance novels. However, players on Twitter will find all sorts of fun ways to interact with the game. Do you want to become a deity? Sure, why not. (Click on the tweet image to see the ridiculous game in all its glory.)

Do you want to eliminate patriarchy? You can do that.

Do you want to sleep with your enemies? Buddy: This game has you.

Or would you just like to have a drink with them?

But do not drink too much!

You could always try to be nice to your enemies in the video game. Wild concept, I know.

Because all neural network responses are generated in the blink of an eye, your problem-solving options are not limited to what the programmers of the game can imagine.

Or is the only way to win, not to play at all?

Really, there are endless screenshots that I could show you what people are doing in AI Dungeon 2. It’s awesome. There may seem to be winnings, but depending on what you do, your game may run completely off course.

You may be wondering about the “2” in the title. Yes, this is a continuation of a game whose text was created through intensive learning. In this iteration, however, the game gave you specific actions to choose from.

AI Dungeon 2 was made possible by the support of David Wingate, Max Robinson and Alan Walton. You can read a series of stories created by the authors by scrolling down here.

If loading AI Dungeon 2 takes a while, it’s normal – although this can be a text adventure, it’s still a fairly resource-intensive game. Be sure to follow the instructions for playing this page.
