Is Super Smash Bros Ultimate Unplayable on Switch 2?

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Faces Compatibility Issues on Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has issued a warning to players that Super Smash Bros Ultimate is experiencing compatibility issues on the new Nintendo Switch 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launched today, June 5, and gamers are eager to explore all that the upgraded system has to offer. In the rush to test the platform, players are trying out a multitude of original Nintendo Switch games to see which ones work seamlessly with the latest hardware.

Before the console’s release, Nintendo shared a list of compatible titles, but fans are now discovering that several games, including major players like Super Smash Bros Ultimate, are encountering unexpected issues that weren’t previously disclosed.

Nintendo has specifically warned that if a player using the original Switch connects with someone on a Nintendo Switch 2, having either participant pick a Mii Fighter can throw matches into chaos, causing them to end abruptly.

The company’s official support page in Japan confirmed the situation and mentioned that a patch is on the way, although there’s no timeline provided for when it will arrive.

Twelve original Nintendo Switch titles are scheduled to get free patches for the Nintendo Switch 2, but these updates are distinct from the paid versions of Switch 2 Edition upgrades for popular games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

The launch lineup boasts exciting new titles, including a fresh entry in the Mario Kart series titled Mario Kart World. Pre-release gameplay sessions have already highlighted some of the series’ best-ever features that players can look forward to.
