Upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

According to recent rumors, the studio co-developing the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is also working on another exciting project. The GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit was abuzz when a former Virtuos employee, verified by the subreddit’s mods, claimed that Virtuos is working on a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Virtuos’ Plans

The user revealed that Virtuos is currently involved in five different projects, with Metal Gear Solid 3 remake being just one of them. They further mentioned a project codenamed ‘Altar’, which appears to be either a remake or a remaster of Oblivion.

Unique Feature

The user highlighted a unique feature in project ‘Altar’. They mentioned a ‘pairing system’ that combines both Unreal Engine 5 and the Oblivion engine. New graphics would be rendered in Unreal Engine 5, while gameplay mechanics, physics, and more would still rely on the Oblivion engine.

Release Date and Studio Location

If the user’s claims are accurate, project ‘Altar’ is expected to be released by the end of 2024 or early 2025, depending on whether it’s a remake or a remaster. Additionally, most of the game’s development is reportedly taking place at Virtuos’s Paris studio.

Other Virtuos Projects

Apart from Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and Oblivion remaster/remake, Virtuos is rumored to be working on several other exciting ventures. One of them is called ‘Massive’, described as a fusion of Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus. They are also reportedly working on an expansion for Amazon MMO New World and a narrative climbing game with the codename ‘Ominous’.
