Big news from Larian Studios! CEO Swen Vinke recently announced that the studio is leaving the Baldur’s Gate series behind to pursue new ventures.

Despite the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, which is based on the Dungeons & Dragons IP owned by Wizards of the Coast, Vinke clarified that the decision to move on was not due to any issues with the licensor.

Speculation online suggested a rift between Larian and Wizards of the Coast, but Vinke took to X to set the record straight, stating that there are no hard feelings and that Larian simply wants to explore new ideas.

At GDC, Vinke emphasized that Larian’s focus is on creating new, ambitious projects rather than making DLCs or sequels. While Baldur’s Gate will always hold a special place in their hearts, Larian has no plans for expansions or a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3.

“We’re a company of big ideas,” Vinke explained. “We’re not going to continue in the Baldur’s Gate universe. We’re moving on to something new.”
