Limited Run Games Requests Gex Trilogy Removal from eShop
Limited Run Games has made a bold move, asking Nintendo to pull the Gex Trilogy from the eShop due to its current malfunction on the Switch 2. This decision comes after recently learning that the game is not functioning properly on the new console.
In a positive twist, the publisher announced that twelve of its previously released titles have been fixed following a Nintendo Switch 2 firmware update. However, the Gex Trilogy remains problematic, prompting Limited Run to take action.
Nintendo’s official backwards compatibility report currently lists 155 games with issues that hamper gameplay on the Switch 2. Many of these games, including the affected Limited Run releases, utilize the company’s Carbon Engine, made for modern re-releases of classic titles.
Firmware Fixes and Patch Delays
While Nintendo rolled out a firmware update that reportedly fixed issues with most of Limited Run’s Carbon Engine titles, Gex Trilogy is still experiencing difficulties. Limited Run Games has submitted its own patch to address the issues, but approval delays due to the Juneteenth holiday mean it’s taking longer than expected to roll out the fix.
“Nintendo updated the Switch 2 firmware last night and we’re happy to announce that this has resolved the backwards compatibility issues with the majority of our Carbon Engine titles,†the publisher shared on X. The full list of Limited Run titles now functioning on Switch 2 includes:
- Bill & Ted’s Excellent Retro Collection
- A Boy and his Blob Collection
- Clock Tower: Rewind
- Felix the Cat
- Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection
- Rendering Ranger R-2: Rewind
- River City Girls Zero
- Rocket Knight Adventures
- Shantae
- Tomba! Special Edition
- Trip World DX
- Xtreme Sports
Pending further clarity on when Gex Trilogy will be functional, Limited Run has preemptively asked Nintendo to remove the game from sale until the patch is approved. It’s a frustrating time for players eager to dive back into retro classics on the Switch 2, but at least efforts are underway to smooth out the bumps.
