Valve made some big announcements at The Invitational, the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year. Now these changes will hit the game in the new Outlanders update. The patch is huge and includes a new neutral building type called Outpost, two new heroes, and a ton of minor balance changes to existing items and heroes.

The first new hero is Void Spirit, who joins his brothers Storm Spirit, Ember Spirit and Earth Spirit. The fans got a look at him in a short trailer that included an Augmented Reality debut on The International’s Shanghai stage. He showed some skills there, but we now know his complete kit.

Meet Snapfire

If Void Spirit is too threatening for your taste, you may prefer Snapfire: a little old lady with a shotgun on the back of a fire-breathing lizard. Snapfire was also unveiled at The International, where she murdered Batrider and her nephew Timbersaw in a most satisfying performance.

Snapfire is unloaded with a big explosion from its reliable scattergun that damages and slows enemies. Especially effective at close range.

Snapfire feeds Mortimer or an ally with a powerful biscuit, causing them to jump a short distance. The hopping unit stuns and damages enemies in the landing zone.

Snapfire uses its lizard-mounted fighter guns to unleash a volley of solid damage attacks that will gain fast fire and bonus attack range while decreasing the attack speed of enemies it hits.

Snapfire rears up on Mortimer and steers his target as he fires burning fire spits, dealing damage on impact and lingering on the ground to slow down enemies and inflict more damage over time.

Courier Express

There are many changes to couriers – especially that every player now has their own courier, who ascends with them. Couriers are scaled as the game progresses, increasing the speed of movement, health, and the amount of gold per minute they contribute to their hero.

The overall picture changes

The hero-fighting card sees some big changes. The layout has been redesigned and the sideboards removed. The objects of the secret shop are now only available in secret shops, ie the Ring of Health and the Leerenstein can only be bought there.

Secret stores were replaced by outposts, which are activated after 10 minutes. Players can gain control of an outpost after completing a 6-second channel. (By channeling more players, a team can conquer an outpost faster.) If you have control of an outpost, you will receive bonus XP on the first capture and again at 5-minute intervals on the clock. Outposts provide visibility in an area and players can teleport to friendly outposts.
